Sciaky, Inc. to Exhibit at IAC in Jerusalem

C.M.I Electronic Industries will represent Sciaky at IAC and highlight Sciaky's latest metal 3D printing solutions

Chicago, Illinois – Sciaky, Inc., a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries, Inc. (PSI) and leading provider of metal additive manufacturing (AM) solutions, announced today that it will exhibit at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Jerusalem, where it will be represented by international sales agent C.M.I Electronic Industries Trading Ltd. C.M.I President Moshe Cohen will highlight Sciaky’s latest Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing (EBAM) systems and expansive AM services at the event.

The expanded lineup of EBAM metal 3D printing systems includes new options for medium, large, and extra-large part applications, making EBAM the most widely scalable metal 3D printing solution on the market (in terms of work envelope) for parts ranging from 203 mm (8 inches) to 5.79 meters (19 feet) in length. EBAM is also the fastest deposition process in the metal 3D printing market, with gross deposition rates ranging from 3.18 to 9.07 kg (7 to 20 lbs.) of metal per hour, depending on the part and selected material.

EBAM technology utilizes wire feedstock, which is available in materials such as titanium, tantalum, niobium, tungsten, molybdenum, Inconel, aluminum, stainless steels, nickel alloys, and more. With a dual wirefeed system from EBAM, you can combine two different metal alloys into a single melt pool to create “custom alloy” parts or ingots. To meet specific part functionality requirements, you can change the mixture ratio of the two materials to create “graded” parts or structures. In addition, you can alternate between different wire gauges for finer deposition features (thin wire) and gross deposition features (thick wire).

Mountain Secure Systems Receives a Two-Year Development and Production Contract from DRS Technologies, Inc. to Provide Ruggedized Video Management Units (VMUs) for SABRE System

Longmont, Colorado – Mountain Secure Systems (MSS), a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and leading supplier of rugged electronic solutions, announced today that it has been awarded a two-year development and production contract from DRS Technologies, Inc. to provide ruggedized video management units (VMUs).

The rugged VMU from MSS is a 3U VPX system comprised of several single board computers, high definition (HD) frame grabber cards, graphical processor units, and other I/O modules. It will provide computing resources for the primary Operator’s Control Station (OCS) on the Surveillance and Battlefield Reconnaissance Equipment (SABRE) system from DRS Technologies, Inc.

The SABRE system from DRS is a highly modular sensor suite that integrates radar, thermal imaging, and laser systems on a stabilized mast and is compatible with any type of battle command network. It provides scouts, forward observers, and tactical air controllers with the ability to perform reconnaissance and targeting at extended ranges. The system facilitates operations while hidden or on the move in rugged environments, share targeting data from multiple sensors across battle command networks. The SABRE system was updated to accommodate the Canadian Army Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) Surveillance Program.

PSI Repair Services Achieves New Milestone with its 20,000th Repaired Wind Turbine Part

Mountain Secure Systems Receives a Two-Year Development and Production Contract from DRS Technologies, Inc. to Provide Ruggedized Video Management Units (VMUs) for SABRE System

Longmont, Colorado – Mountain Secure Systems (MSS), a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and leading supplier of rugged electronic solutions, announced today that it has been awarded a two-year development and production contract from DRS Technologies, Inc. to provide ruggedized video management units (VMUs).

The rugged VMU from MSS is a 3U VPX system comprised of several single board computers, high definition (HD) frame grabber cards, graphical processor units, and other I/O modules. It will provide computing resources for the primary Operator’s Control Station (OCS) on the Surveillance and Battlefield Reconnaissance Equipment (SABRE) system from DRS Technologies, Inc.

The SABRE system from DRS is a highly modular sensor suite that integrates radar, thermal imaging, and laser systems on a stabilized mast and is compatible with any type of battle command network. It provides scouts, forward observers, and tactical air controllers with the ability to perform reconnaissance and targeting at extended ranges. The system facilitates operations while hidden or on the move in rugged environments, share targeting data from multiple sensors across battle command networks. The SABRE system was updated to accommodate the Canadian Army Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) Surveillance Program.

Sciaky, Inc. to Provide Turnkey Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing System to Lockheed Martin Space Systems

EBAM system will help Lockheed Martin reduce time & cost on the production of titanium propulsion tanks

Chicago, Illinois – Sciaky, Inc., a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries, Inc. (PSI) and provider of large-scale additive manufacturing solutions, announced today that it recently received a purchase order from Lockheed Martin Space Systems to provide a turnkey electron beam additive manufacturing (EBAM) system. The EBAM system will help Lockheed Martin reduce time and cost on the production of titanium propulsion tanks.   

Sciaky VX-110On July 10, Sciaky announced the availability of EBAM systems to the marketplace. This is the second multi-million dollar order from a major global manufacturing company since the announcement. In addition, Sciaky is working with over a dozen other companies and entities within the aerospace, defense and manufacturing sectors to provide EBAM systems for their unique needs.

Lockheed Martin Space Systems designs, develops, tests, manufactures and operates a full spectrum of advanced-technology systems for national security, civil and commercial customers. Chief products include human space flight systems; a full range of remote sensing, navigation, meteorological and communications satellites and instruments; space observatories and interplanetary spacecraft; laser radar; fleet ballistic missiles; and missile defense systems.

Sciaky’s EBAM process combines computer-aided design (CAD), electron beam manufacturing technology and layer-additive processing. Starting with a 3D model from a CAD program, Sciaky's fully-articulated, moving electron beam gun deposits metal (via wire feedstock), layer by layer, until the part reaches near-net shape. From there, the near-net shape part requires minor post-production machining. The 110” x 110” x 110” (L x W x H) build envelope of the EBAM system will allow Lockheed Martin to produce large titanium parts, with virtually no waste.

Sciaky's Innovative Additive Manufacturing Systems Available to the Market Starting September 2014

Chicago, Illinois – Sciaky, Inc., a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and providers of additive manufacturing solutions for large-scale, high-value metal parts, announced today that it will be offering its groundbreaking electron beam additive manufacturing (EBAM) systems for purchase, with accelerated delivery opportunities available as early as September 1, 2014.

Sciaky has predominantly offered its exclusive additive manufacturing process as a service-only option to manufacturers who required assistance to produce large-scale prototypes and production parts, up to 19 feet in length, made of high-value metals like titanium, tantalum, stainless steel, and Inconel. The technology has been a key driver of several high profile research and development (R&D) projects involving the U.S. Air Force, Lockheed Martin, DARPA and Boeing.  

The EBAM process, which has been marketed as Direct Manufacturing (DM), combines computer-aided design (CAD), electron beam welding technology and layer-additive processing. Starting with a 3D model from a CAD program, Sciaky's fully-articulated, moving electron beam welding gun deposits metal (via wire feedstock), layer by layer, until the part reaches near-net shape. From there, the near-net shape part requires minor post-production machining.

Deposition rates of Sciaky’s EBAM process range from 7 to 20 lbs/hr, depending upon part geometry and the material selected. The build envelope can reach up to 19' x 4' x 4' (L x W x H), allowing manufacturers to produce very large parts and structures, with virtually no waste. As a result, manufacturers can drastically reduce material costs, lead times and machining time, when compared to traditional manufacturing methods.

Beaver Aerospace & Defense to supply high-performance inertial separator actuators for the DAHER-SOCATA TBM 900 Aircraft

Beaver’s custom electromechanical actuator will help the new TBM 900 achieve higher reliability and load capacity

Livonia, Michigan – Beaver Aerospace & Defense, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and global leader in the design and manufacturing of a broad-range of custom ball screws and electromechanical actuation systems, has been selected to provide high-performance inertial separator actuators for the new DAHER-SOCATA TBM 900 Aircraft. Beaver has designed, manufactured and certified the new actuator to achieve higher reliability and load capacity for the TBM 900, which is receiving numerous enhancements from the French manufacturer. The aircraft was unveiled on March 12, 2014 at a ceremony in France, and the first three aircraft are scheduled to be delivered to customers today (March 20).

The TBM 900 is a high-performance business aircraft, powered by a single Pratt & Whitney PT6 series 850 horsepower (HP) turboprop engine. Certified up to 31,000 feet, its maximum range is more than 1730 nautical miles (Nm) and its maximum speed can reach 330 knots (or 611 km/h).
